Can my employer fire me or cancel my insurance if I was diagnosed with cancer and am being treated for it now?

i work in the summer for a country club and during the winter I was paid unemployment. In January, I was diagnosed with cancer and now can no longer work as of now. My unemployment stopped, and I am afraid my insurance will be cancelled as well. Will I get fired too? Do I have other options? Thank you so much for all help!

First: no, your employer can not fire you for having cancer.
Second: If the diagnosis of cancer came while you were insured, they can’t drop you until you reach the maximum limit (mine is one million in coverage).
Are you on the Cobra plan? It may be very expensive to pay for the insurance because once you quit work, you have to pay the full price for the premiums, instead of the group rate you get on the job.
Good luck.

If you were most recently on unemployment, then technically, you do not have a job to be fired from. A summer job does not usually carry full time benefits anyway. What kind of cancer do you have if you don’t mind me asking. I have been working for years with metastatic Kidney cancer.
