These crazies are coming out of the woodwork since I had a fire at my home. Who has the most to gain from my tragedy? I’m about to get mad-dog-mean at this point.

Their roll is to completely investigate the loss.
This means:
-cause/origin of the fire (is it consistent with what is being said, was it set, is it possible/probable)
-interview any witnesses or neighbors,
-are the things being claimed to have been damaged able to be shown to actually been there at the time of the fire,
-as well as replacement/repair values of the items damaged or completely burned.
While it can be very frustrating dealing with an insurance adjuster or company, remember before you go “mad-dog-mean” on them that at this point they are the only people that can help you resolve your unfortunate situation.

There is only one adjuster that you HAVE to deal with, and that’s the adjuster sent by your insurance company.
All of the others are likely Public Adjusters. They work for the claimant (you) and try to get the insurance company to pay more than they would otherwise. In return they take a percentage of the total claim. You hire them to negotiate for you.
My thought was always if the insurance company pays to get everything fixed then a public adjuster is a waste of money. If there’s a problem then maybe they can get you more money.
On the other hand, if THEY can get you more money then if you are a decent negotiator you can likely do the same thing…
If you aren’t interested just tell them to get lost.
