My father was a disabled vet who passed away unexpectedly yesterday. He had no life insurance, and I am the only family member who will be responsible for his funeral arrangements.
I don’t have much money to bury him. I think that he had a burial plot waiting for him in New York, but with him having no insurance, will this be a very expensive thing to move him from Michigan to New York?? Help please I don’t have anyone that will financially help me bury my daddy.

Cremation is the cheapest way out!

Call the Veterans org and ask for help, I know they will put a marker on his grave. If he has a plot in NY you can have him cremated and I believe you can take his ashes to NY or if you have a plot you can bury him at the foot of your grave. But the Vets should be able to help. He can also ( if honorable discharged vet ) be bury at the Vets cemetery in Ann Arbor.

Contact the military and tell them he has passed away. He was a vet and they should help out with funeral expenses.

get with the VA, he is entitled to burial in a veteran’s cemetary - all you pay for is the mortuary services.

Since your father was a veteran you should be able to get help with funeral expenses. Contact your local VFW and VA hospital for more information. since he was also disabled you might be able to get help through his disability claim. Also depending on his age you may have to call the Social Security office to find out about those benefits as well. There are a few avenues to try before taking on the full brunt of financial responsibilities for your fathers Funeral expenses
My condolences, good luck.

You need to ask if there is financial aide for this

You could donate the body to science. He can do more good that way than he can through going into the ground.

Sorry for your loss. As others were saying, you should be able to get help as he was a Vet, but if not one of my employees had a similar situation with her grandfather. The family opted to have him creamated and then did a small memorial service at the funeral home which was relatively inexpensive. They did find out that you could in fact bury the remains (which you can carry with you when you go to NY) and have him buried in his plot. I hope this information helps.
