My laptop got stolen from my car, that was broken into, today. For various reasons it looks like auto-insurance wont cover it but rental insurance would (i dont own a home).

If i take renters insurance today, any chance that it would cover the laptop that i lost today?

I have renters and auto insurance thru State Farm. I heard that my “high crime” items (cds, computers, etc) are not covered if they are stolen from my car and that my laptop wouldn’t be covered if it was stolen while out of my townhouse. Is there any truth to this? I would hate to purchase extra insurance if it isn’t needed.
My agent’s secretary told me this, however I’m not sure how much to believe her since she is new and I’ve never dealt with her before.
